More Than A Monument, an Indie rock band from Baltimore, Md, has recently released a self-titled EP, introducing their original, emotional, and intense sound to listeners everywhere. The Cd, recorded at High View Studios by Drew Mazurek (Jawbox, Liars Academy, Texas is the Reason, Linkin Park) features just a sample of More Than A Monument's seamlessly fused, original sound of punk, indie, and rock.
In less than a year, the quartet has built an impressive fan base in the Baltimore area by playing in a wide variety of clubs, bars, and other venues. Their strong work ethic, innovative music, and desire to be heard, had made MTAM one of the biggest up-and-coming acts in the area.
Long time friends Will Rode, lead vocals/guitar, and Mike McNeive, backup vocals/guitar, teamed up with drummer Evan Yaffe and bassit Rob Calka in early 2003 and immediately began writing. The result, a sonically arresting combination of beautiful shimmering guitar melodies, thundering basslines, intricate drum work, and harmonic vocals quickly attracted attention in Baltimore's scene. Their brand new four-song debut has already received attention by fans throughout the country.
In addition to their powerful music, MTAM brings and exciting, high-energy stage show to every venue. Their electrifying performances have drawn praise from the Ottobar, the Royal, and many other area venues. "Our live show is just and extension of our music. We like to get the crowd invovled...give them something to talk about when they get home." says guitarist, Mike McNeive.
With about fifty shows played in the last year and a full-length album in the works (due to be released winter 2005) MTAM plans on staying busy, gaining fans both inside and outside the beltway. MTAM has recently received airplay on Towson's XTSR, and WMBC. Visit their website, www.morethanamonument.com, to hear new songs, watch video, and interact with other fans.
